Dr. Adam’s zoo was less a tourist spectacle and more a living library—an intimate, slightly cluttered repository where animal life was studied as culture as much as biology. Tucked behind a low brick wall and a gate overgrown with jasmine, the grounds smelled of damp earth, fur, and the faint metallic tang of the lab.
