The movie begins with the death of police officer Ray Gaines (Jeff Bridges) at the hands of a young thug. However, Gaines soon finds himself in the afterlife, where he meets a department known as R.I.P.D. (R.I.P. Department), responsible for protecting the world of the living from supernatural threats.
