The film takes place eight years after the events of The Dark Knight. Batman has retired, and Gotham City is plagued by a terrorist named Bane (Tom Hardy). Bane, a masked villain with enhanced physical abilities, threatens to destroy Gotham City, and Batman must return to protect it. Meanwhile, Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway), a cat burglar, becomes entangled in Batman's quest.
