In some cases, oxytocin can create a strong attachment between an abuser and their victim, making it difficult for the victim to escape the relationship. This phenomenon is often referred to as "trauma bonding." Furthermore, research has shown that oxytocin can also increase aggression and dominance behaviors in individuals with a history of trauma or abuse.
